Lakeherst

Lakeherst's Top 10 Albums of 2008

Los Campesinos! – Hold on Now, Youngster

From the first song, you know that this album is going to be good and fun. But what you aren't prepared for is the sincerity of the lyrics. So, it is not the album you want to listen to as the world ends, but it is the album you want to listen at the party you throw before the world ends.

Kings of Leon - Only by the Night

Every song on this album blends seamlessly into the next, playing to you like a good movie. It draws you in and before you know it, the last track has played and you just want to start over again. This album is a true memorable listening experience. The mixing of this album really enhances the subtleties of each of the parts and how they accentuate the vocals. All the songs are rocking and having a great blues edge to them.

Dr. Dog – Fate

This album represents what being in a band is all about. There's no overproduction, no over-pretension, just guys playing music and doing it well.

No Age – Nouns

Rich textures, somewhat ghostly vocals and classic guitar riffs make for an edge-of-the-seat ride through pop, punk and everything in between.

The Raveonettes - Lust Lust Lust

Cool beats with some of the coolest guitar tones. The airiness and dirtiness of the recording elevates the entire album.

The Black Keys - Attack & Release

Killer grooves. Wonderfully produced.

City and Colour - Bring Me your Love

The album is very smooth from one song to the next. He incorporates banjos, harmonicas and piano that help round out the songs nicely with a folky touch. The first time you listen to it you can connect with it.

Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line

Tons of melodies and counter-melodies make this a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Great chorus hooks and some amazingly perfect drum parts.

My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

An excellent rock album packed with trippy/odd lyrics and some of the best musicianship out there.

Guns 'N' Roses - Chinese Democracy

Simply, this album should be on everyone's top 10 list for the shear fact that we no longer have to wonder what Axl has been doing for over the last 10+ years.
