Victorian Halls

Victorian Halls' Top 10 Albums of 2008

Foxy Shazam :: Introducing

It’s a feel-good album.

Dr Manhattan :: s/t

Thank you, Wauconda, IL.

Fleet Foxes :: s/t

The album is an overall listening experience, one that manages to be both communal and deeply personal, vague in its directions and yet stoically focused, somber and resigned, yet eternally hopeful.

N.E.R.D. :: Seeing Sounds

The Matches :: A Band In Hope

The world needs more songs like “Darkness Rising.”

The Hold Steady :: Stay Positive

Stay Positive was a loud, exciting example of the Hold Steady doing what they do best. They even took a stab at eclecticism (via the harpsichord).

Lil Wayne :: Tha Carter III

Aficionados always seem to point out that some of his best work is done in street mixtapes, but Tha Carter III is easily Wayne's best official album to date, and overall best hip-hop album of the year.

TV on the Radio :: Dear Science

The songs on Dear Science translate quite well live, with non-programmed instruments getting people out of their seats. The album is a different direction for the band – dance-rock and singalongs.

Manchester Orchestra :: Let My Pride Be What's Left Behind

The Killers :: Day and Age

It’s nice to show some major label love once in a while.
